how to become a successful blogger

I caught up with bloggers Katie Peake, Natasha Todd, Kate Gardner, Natasha Turton and Brogan Tate to find out why they started blogging and how they think they gained a following...

1. Why did you start blogging and is it your full time job?

I started blogging as a hobby, alongside my full time job as a visual merchandiser and stylist for H&M but I would love to go full time.

2. How do you think you gained a following? Do you have any tips for people just starting out?

I think I gained a following by being consistent with posting regularly and engaging and discovering new accounts and bloggers.

3. What’s your favourite look / blog post you’ve ever posted and why?

My favourite look is my most recent collab with River Island because it was super exciting working with a big brand like that! I chose the outfit for free as well, which was very exciting.

1. Why did you start blogging and is it your full time job?

I started blogging because my friends always ask me about the clothes I wear and the makeup I use and I just wanted somewhere I could share it all. Plus, I studied journalism so really enjoy writing! It’s not my full time job, I also work in agriculture, randomly.

2. How do you think you gained a following? Do you have any tips for people just starting out?

I think I built my following because I’ve managed to create an organic outreach by engaging with people who enjoy beauty and fashion based content. This is mainly through conversing with other bloggers and also from working with brands who then share my work.

3. What’s your favourite look / blog post you’ve ever posted and why?

My favourite post is one I did about a month ago, which was featuring a pair of cute red trousers and a slogan tee. It focused on how people shouldn’t be so hard on themselves for not being on a career path yet or buying a house and just generally trying not to give into social pressures.

1. Why did you start blogging and is it your full time job?

I started my blog because I’ve always been creative and loved fashion and makeup. I’ve also looked up to bloggers and influencers and admired their work for a long time and wanted to contribute my own ideas. I only do it part time at the moment.

2. How do you think you gained a following? Do you have any tips for people just starting out?

Honestly, I’m not sure but I think it’s important to post consistently and post quality content. I do think it helps to have a feed that’s satisfying to look at too. I also think connecting with your followers and showing your personality is important! In terms of starting; just be active, comment and like other people’s content and be engaging.

3. What’s your favourite look / blog post you’ve ever posted and why?

I actually think my latest post was my favourite, it was about blogger stereotyping and I’d just got a new camera so I loved the shots. I also loved writing a chatty post because I feel it really helps people to get to know me personally.

1. Why did you start blogging and is it your full time job?

I started blogging to show my style in the hopes to inspire others to be confident in what they wear. I also started a blog as I have a qualification in photography and loved writing, so felt it would be a good hobby. It’s not my full time job, I do it as and when I can fit it around my actual job.

2. How do you think you gained a following? Do you have any tips for people just starting out?

I gained a following by engaging with other bloggers and fashionista’s. I recommend commenting and liking other people’s photos to make connections. It’s the best way to engage! I’ve made so many friends through this experience.

3. What’s your favourite look / blog post you’ve ever posted and why?

My favourite blog post is one I posted recently. It was looking back on my past year of blogging, and looking at how my confidence has grown in writing and in my styling.

1. Why did you start blogging and is it your full time job?

I started my blog and YouTube as a place to share my thoughts, feelings and passions. It’s grown over six years and I’m extremely proud of my content. It isn’t my full

time job, I’m also a freelance social media consultant on the side.

2. How do you think you gained a following? Do you have any tips for people just starting out?

I gained a following by basing my content on real life, discussing topics and remaining authentic in everything I do. People can relate to everyday girls like me, finding comfort in knowing we are not alone. For starting out I’d say: do it because it’s fab, teach yourself how to edit, photography or build a blog and find what brings you joy!

3. What’s your favourite look / blog post you’ve ever posted and why?

My favourite blog post and video is one I haven’t published yet, a 2017 rewind looking back at the year. The post has key dates on my achievements and highlights, with a video to match, which is a 10 minute montage of my best bits and I love it. It reminds me of how far I’ve come and how much I’ve achieved. I can’t wait to share them both.
